I tried removing the new mods and only used the mods I had before, and still got the crash. you need to go to the PolyMC java settings, then to browse, then go to the folder with this particular java, click java.exe then open. I was attempting to update from 1.16.5 to 1.18.1 and went through and manually downloaded all the up-to-date. For 1.16.5 or older theres a workaround, you need to install an older java binary (note: these links are official MultiMC links.
